About Circle Soaps

What are Circle Soaps?

Circle Soaps are revolutionary bars of gentle soap which allow us to be more confident, smell great, and hug lots as our bodies change over time.

Who needs Circle Soaps?

Circle Soaps were created for folks over 40, but here at Joytown we don’t discriminate. If you’re younger than 40, we welcome you! Just think of it as starting the party a little early 😄.

Why are Circle Soaps needed?

We like to think of ourselves as fine wine; we get better with age. We are wiser, more compassionate, and stronger because of everything we’ve experienced. As we age, particularly around the age of 40, our hormones change the way we metabolize food. This increases the production of lipids and fatty acids on our skin.

At the same time, our skin’s natural antioxidant properties deteriorate, and those darn lipids oxidize more easily. This process produces a chemical compound called nonenal, and unfortunately, nonenal doesn’t smell as good as fine wine! If you’ve ever heard anyone mention 'old person’s smell,' this is what they’re talking about. It’s a real phenomenon, absolutely natural, and has nothing to do with 'cleanliness.' It’s related to the gases our bodies produce as we age. That’s why we created Circle Soaps—to eliminate the scent of nonenal from our skin.

How do Circle Soaps work?

We like to think of it as magic, but actually, science holds the answer. A bunch of folks wearing white coats, working in laboratories with test tubes and microscopes, discovered that the tannin in persimmons, when blended with green tea, neutralizes nonenal in the same way lemon juice neutralizes a fishy smell on our skin. When those two ingredients are combined in the perfect ratio, nonenal is neutralized and odor is eliminated. Mother Nature provides all we need to smell fresh and be confident when we snuggle up close to the folks we love.

Reasons to love Circle Soaps

Our soap is made the old-fashioned way, with art, craftsmanship, and the love of Mother Nature. We also incorporate some science to ensure it performs as intended. Our small batches guarantee that each bar offers the perfect balance of cleansing and soothing your skin. We use only the highest quality ingredients we can source. After all, you’re putting this stuff on your body. We’re not skimping. It's about loving ourselves. We use no fillers, no chemicals, no artificial additives, and no detergents. Circle Soaps are simply the pure, real deal.

  • Persimmons

Technically, persimmons are berries. Who knew? The word 'persimmon' is derived from 'pasiminan,' a word in the Algonquian language of the southern and eastern United States, meaning 'a dry fruit'.

  • Shea Butter

Our shea butter is sourced from West Africa, where the finest shea trees grow. And while we don't recommend eating our soap, we want you to know that we use the highest food-grade shea butter available on the market. Nothing but the best for our circle of friends.

  • Green Tea

Tea is made from leaves and buds that have not undergone the same withering and oxidation process as other types. We like it because when mixed with persimmon extract, you can snuggle up close without worrying about the nonenal scent lingering.

What's with the name?

As soon as we learned about persimmon and green tea, and how they worked wonders on bodies over 40, we wanted to bring this product to market.  We spent over a year "working to get it right" and all the while we were working on the bar itself, we were also trying to think of the PERFECT name to call it.

  • We needed to come up with a name for our soaps.
  • We made lists of words we liked.
  • We even made up words.
  • We wrote down nice phrases that meant “smell good at all ages.”

Then we scratched our heads and said, “None of these names are right.”

So then we thought about what the soap DID for us. How CONFIDENT it makes us feel when we hug friends and partners and grand-babies knowing we smell good and fresh. And then we thought about those people we love. How they encircle us. How they enrich us. Not one of them, but all of them. They are our tribe. They are our world. They are the circle of love that surrounds us.

Circle. It’s a good word. And we think it’s the perfect name for a great soap.
